Updates to the blog, a newer direction

Well, after doing some research and talking to some friends and family I have decided to take this blog in to a new direction. It is no longer a blog, it is a project (yeah ok and?).

The reason I am drawing this line in the sand is simply so that I can make it clear to anyone who comes to the site that there is a goal in mind.

What is the goal?
The goal is simple. I want to post, display, and discuss may letters from every decade that I can get my hands on. The idea is that I want to create a way for myself to compare letters from different decades and eras so that I can see how things have changed.

ObservationsI have already noticed certain things that I think are amazing. This with only two letters actually on the site.

  1. As time goes on, people get more lazy in their handwriting.
  2. Many people have letters just laying around, and many of them end up throwing them out.
  3. There is significant information in any letter, despite how insignificant one person may think it is.

What do I need?

  1. I need letters.
    1. I need them either in their original form, or I need them scanned in. I will give credit to anyone who donates letters to the site. I believe that you may be able to “write-off” any letter donations that you make to this site on your taxes.
    2. If you scan them, and you can type them too..You are my best friend forever.
  2. I need help typing these letters, making sure that the typed version follows the letter as well as possible. This means that if the original letter has a word misspelled, go ahead and misspell it, otherwise don’t. This will give the typed version more of a genuine feel (despite being misspelled).
  3. Ideas on how to get the word out, and how to acquire more letters. If you have an idea..tell me quick!

More welcomeness

Everyone has a box of letters somewhere. It can be letters sent to you from friends or family, they can be from when you were a kid, to just last week. Either way, you have been saving them for some reason, waiting for something to happen, some reason for why you have been saving these letters for so long.Letters dont have to be sent in an envelope by your Aunty, or your grandmother. They can be notes that you passed between friends back in highschool, they can be formal letters that you thought were hilarious, or sad, or life-changing.

It is important to share these things with eachother. We should all share these things with other people. These are the things that make us, and break us, that change our lives, and that make our lives worth living.

What makes us more human than the interactions that we have with eachother? What shows more into someone’s soul than what they commit to paper?

Welcome to Sent Letters

I am hoping that you have come here, because you are interested in reading and seeing letters that people have sent to eachother.  Lets call it curiosity.

Letters have so much that they contain.  A picture is worth a thousand words, but a letter has  a window into two people’s lives.  It is amazing what information we put into letters.

What is a letter?  It is anything from a note to a message, an email, a real actual letter…any of it.  Anytime that we put text to a page in an attempt to give it to another person to share some information, that is a letter.

I hope to provide an interesting look into people’s lives, and open discussion about the letters themselves, and the things that they are actually saying, whether the “message” is in between the lines or on them.
