BOLIVAR - NEW YORKThursday-
Mary dear-
Well, dear, how is the big city? I do hope you and “Aunt Rettie” are standing up under the strain of it all.
I ate at the Apple Tree Inn on the way home and had a very enjoyable dinner. In fact, I’ll bet it was better than what you received on the plane. Must have been a beautiful evening to fly down, wish I could have been with you.I got a letter from Mayers today about the watch. Because of the defense etc. they are unable to furnish an Elgin. However, they suggest some other kind as a substitute. The price is approximately the same. Throught I would see Rita and ask her about it, but we haven’t crossed paths. Cosnsequently, you can understand that I have been at home and in bed very early these evenings.
Did you call Joe Commiskey? Also, did you get the shirts for me?
I haven’t heard from Doie about the trip Saturday. In fact, I don’t know yet whether I could go Saturday. This was news to me, and furthermore, on his advise I am to get a telegram advising when ou will reach Buffalo. Is all of this True?
Your letter has not reached me yet. I do hope you haven’t been too busy to write. Please thing of me anyway, I want you to, you know.
I have thought about you a helluva lot and have missed seeing you so much. If you do have plans to come home Sat. please wire me and I’ll be there to meet you.
I do hope I hear from you tomorrow. Good Night, dear, be a good girl, d-e-a-r.
All my love,
Bill

Mary dear-
I am writing this before I call so that It will get in the mail tonight.
Received word from the ‘big shot’ this morning that he will be hom Monday. I really have something important, which requires an answer not later than Tuesday, to take up with him.
In as much as he will be here Monday. I believe it advisable to remain here. I know I could come down and back Sunday, but I would really like a little time to do something on my next N.Y. trip. I am sorry, cause I believe you will be disappointed, at least I am.
They told me at the Buffalo airport yesterday that they are going to continue at Rochester only when weather conditions at
Bflo. prohibit a safe landing. If you come Saturday we will do something in Bflo. that night. How’s about it, let me know?Haven’t received a letter from you yet. I hope there will be one waiting when I get home.
Saw “Aunt R” this P.M. she was headed for Hide-Away, giving a party for some of the girls.
Otherwise things in town are normal as far as I know. It has cooled off several degrees and it was possible to sleep last night.
Please don’t stay away too long, I miss you a double “helluva lot” and wish I could be with you right now. I have thought about you often, in fact when I am not working it is incessant. Hope you are able to decipher this.
All my love,
Bill

TWENTY-EIGHTH ALL BACK NOW
——
Second Section, Bringing Colonel Plummer and Six Companies, Arrived This Morning.
——
MEN CLEAN OUT BARRACKS
——
Third and Last Section, Containing Baggage and Field Equipment, Due Tonight.
——
The second section of the Twenty-eighth infantry arrived at Fort Snelling from Fort Sam Houston, Texas, at 3 A.M. today. The first section arrived late yesterday afternoon. The third section, which consists of mostly of the heavy baggage, wagons, mules and other field equipment, will arrive about 7 P.M. today.
There were over 400 officers and men, including Colonel E. H. Plummer, the regimental band and Companies A, B, E, F, G and H, in the second section. The train was backed into the reservation on the St. Paul line spur and the men detrained at the fort.
Arrangements for the home-coming of the troops included the purchase of additional supplies by the commissary department.
Besides Colonel Plummer the officers who arrived this morning are, Major J. R. Lindsay, Captians Jerry Lynch, F. E. Bamford, J. M. Little and William S. Faulkner, Lieutenants E. H. Lowe, E. C Bankhead, Jerry Baxter, C M. Eastman, Thomas Heron, E. S. Hayes and C. C. Stokely and Dr. Maynard.
Immediately after their arrival the men began to clean up their quarters. Old clothes, left in the barracks when the troops were hurried off to the South last spring, were burned, and the quarters were given a thorough overhauling.

- The link above talks about how Joseph was a member of the Knights Templar and the Masons. I have a feeling that he was the one to whom the Induction/Initiation ceremony for the Order of the Eastern Star belonged.

Dear Alice & Lawrence,
Alice I recieved your good letter written along the first week in January. And this evening in looking over my un-answered letters found yours of which I am going to answer the first one for I know it surely is the one to answer first as the date is 8th but how time does go - to fast for me.
I have been having plenty to do, always something to look after and Doctor has’t been feeling very well, has been have a good many heart attacks.
Martha was telling us the other evening what a wonderful little house keeper you are and said she injoyed you so much. Doctor and I went down to the house to see the new office we think its fine, and I know your dad will injoy it when he gets everything as he wants it.
A year ago to-day I went to Atchison and bro’t Gilbert home and then he was here and down there until the 17th of Mar when he went back the last time.
Seems so many many things have happened in the last year and too it seems like a dream.
Mrs. Powell came home from Dallas yesterday she had been gone since the day after Thanksgiving She was so pleased to get back to her little place.
She injoyed visiting Mary & Clifford, said Mary was a dandy cook.
Alice if I ever do get to Pawnee City I am going to visit you, but I am afraid it won’t be soon.
When you come down, come up if you have a minute, I relized your time is short when you do come down.
Lots and lots of love,
From Mickey
