Dear, Alice I have been slow to answer your letter but will try and say a few words - I am almost ???? writing to anyone - I took a cold on Tuesday after you was here - and have been ????? down ever since I cough all the time I had the doctor to examine my Lungs he said they were not affected yet - but I sure do cough awful hard - I am to old to stand such a cold it seems to me - but I may get over it can not tell yet no, Alice I did not give you that money to buy all the ????? goods
2) I told you I would accept that as a Christmas present do just what you like with the dollar I gave you - I just thought your mother would like to give you something if she could I felt like I could not see you go without giving you something - I felt like I could just see yours and Mary little black heads when I used to watch over you and rock you to sleep - but those happy days are gone to never return - I hope you and Mary will both be happy - I think you have got good kind husbands
I don’t expect to be here much longer but the world is a blank to me now no pleasure in it for me we are having some winter the last few days some snow on the ground and has melted ????? to make it ??? - I will not try to write as much as I am so nervous you ask if I hear from Mary yes I hear sometimes - am always glad to hear from you both - hope to be able to do better next time with hope you and Lawrence keep well and do well will close with love to you both - write when you can

Dear Alice this is Grandma writing to you. Your birthday will soon be here and I am sending you a Towel that your mother gave to me. It has been washed but that will not hurt it. I thought you would like to have it. As your mother had bought it. I sent one to Mary for her birthday, not quite as large as the one I am sending you. I hope you and Laurnence are doing well and like your home. We are as well as usual here but badly in need of rain. It has showered all around us but we only had a light shower. The last few days has been cool, after some very hot days. Your dad and Martha and Gertie was down one evening last week, they had a good rain at Gof. I am not quite as well as I was when you saw me last. The heat has got me pretty weak and nervous makes it hard for me to write letters and as I do not have anything now to write. I will close wishing you both good luck in your new home let me hear if you get the Lamel and all about what you are doing. If you hace the time to write, love and wishes Grandma.
