Jan. 21 -

Dear Alice: -

Just a line to thank you for our Xmas presents. They were all just fine and we appreciate being remembered. Ihope you are using your percolator and enjoy it as much as we do ours. We had a very nice Xmas. Mother and Pauline were here. But Allan & wife didn’t come. The roads were bad and a long trip for such a short stay. Bobby was happy and enthused over it all. He saw Santa uptown and got a treat I also took him to the church. his class sung a song. His teacher at school gave them a treat, I visited school that afternoon.

Dapper Dan died the Sunday after Xmas. We sure did miss him & felt bad but have another one now just a stray that came here but is a nice cat - but is a young cat so Bobby gets lots of pleasure playing with him. Just as soon as mother and roads are better, we are coming over - will we have any trouble in find you?

Why can’t you folks come over and spend Sunday with us some time - just let us know so you will find us at home. Had a letter from Mary - was sure surprised to hear your father had been to Texas.

Our roads here are almost impassible so not much business. Have you put in your time when Larry is away.

We’ll be glad to see you folks any time you can come. We are all as well as usual.

With love,

C.M.N.

Card:

Dear Folks: as I dont know whereyou will be Xmas, we are sending your package to day, and hope you will both get a lot of good out of it. This is you Xmas present, will send wedding present later. I see this card is soiled a little but it is the only one that I have & want to get ready for Bob to mail at so will have to do. Bobby’s out of school this week - is very much much enthused over santa trying to rain again this morning. Why dont you and Larry come here for Xmas dinner it isnt very far and gravel all the way Don’t want to do anything to ???? your dad but would like to have you some here. Mother and Pauline are here & looking for Allen & his wife & Frances will be here too. Love to all Crilla.

My Questions:

When did people start using Xmas as the term for Christmas?

Observations/Notes:

I am not sure if the part that says “santa trying to rain again” actually says that considering that makes no sense to me…
