Dear Alice & Lawrence,
Alice I recieved your good letter written along the first week in January. And this evening in looking over my un-answered letters found yours of which I am going to answer the first one for I know it surely is the one to answer first as the date is 8th but how time does go - to fast for me.
I have been having plenty to do, always something to look after and Doctor has’t been feeling very well, has been have a good many heart attacks.
Martha was telling us the other evening what a wonderful little house keeper you are and said she injoyed you so much. Doctor and I went down to the house to see the new office we think its fine, and I know your dad will injoy it when he gets everything as he wants it.
A year ago to-day I went to Atchison and bro’t Gilbert home and then he was here and down there until the 17th of Mar when he went back the last time.
Seems so many many things have happened in the last year and too it seems like a dream.
Mrs. Powell came home from Dallas yesterday she had been gone since the day after Thanksgiving She was so pleased to get back to her little place.
She injoyed visiting Mary & Clifford, said Mary was a dandy cook.
Alice if I ever do get to Pawnee City I am going to visit you, but I am afraid it won’t be soon.
When you come down, come up if you have a minute, I relized your time is short when you do come down.
Lots and lots of love,
From Mickey

12-30-31Dearest Alice,
I received your good letter this P.M and was pleased to hear from you.
I have a pair of pillow cases for you and Lawrence and I hope you like them, it is just a little hard to know about sizes but hope they aint to large for your pillows.
I hope you had a nice Christmas, I had a ver nice Christmas, seemed very lonesime with Gilbert gone for he always was with me that day for the last ten years before -
Every time I turned around I would think of him and when I sat down to eat. I could hardly eat for a few minutes.
Alice, I received many very nice Gifts, and your I do appreciate so much for I do like a nice clean hat brush that isnt used on clothing to brush my hats and I do thank you very much.
Mary and Clifford sent Doctor and I a pyrex dish, something I have wanted for a long time just fits a silver casserle I have. I always before used a porcelain pan but how much nicer the pyrex dish will be for I scopple so many different things.
Doctor gave me a real fox fur. I sure am happy over that and too I needed a fur for my coat as it hasnt fur on it.
I called your Dad soon as I read your letter told him you returned home OK.Yes Alice I have a sister living there in Pawnee City. She lives on the highway going east out of pawnee. the 3rd house not a very large house on the south side of the road going into town. Her name is Howard, her husbands name is Fred.
They stopped here on their way down home. I told Lottie you was living up there. She has a big fat sweet baby. He just sits and laughs.
Alice call Lottie up over the ????? I know she would be glad to have you come over. And I know you kids would like both Lottie and Fred.
Well Alice I am just about to run down. I received a big box of this stationary for Christmas enough to last me till 1932.
I am mailing you your package this evening.
Lots and Lots of love from
Mickey

Dear Alice,
I rec’d your pkg. this morning and I certainly thank you for the pretty handkerchiefs. I think they are so pretty. I ahd your pkg. all ready, but thought you might come home & I could give it to you. so I told Jake when I rec’d your pkg. I guess you werent coming home so I am mailing it to you this morning. I rec’d a pkg. from Mary and Clifford but haven’t opened it yet becaue they didnt want me to open it until Xmas. They had a nice programe on at the theater last night. I ddint enjoy it as much as I did last year though, because your mother, Mary, Clifford & you & I were all together.& last night I was all alone & felt pretty blue over it. I suppose Martie wrote you all aboutshe and your Dad going dow nto see Mary & Clifford.
Well Alice I just havent time to write more this time I sure am busy. I will write more next time. I just rec’d your pkg & I thank you & Lawrence much. We wish you both a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.Lots of Love
Mrs. Shumaker
Observations:
At first I thought this was a letter from Mary to Alice, talking about a package, and hten I saw that she talks about Mary and Clifford. I have no idea who this is!
